If you want to address the service or delivery businesses, then a V6 is the engine to have. Also imagine the retail customer's face when they've come from the Ford lot and get into the V6 truck: "Well, I don't see any difference between this and the F-150..." And the salesman says, "Well, of course! This is the V6. Wait until you drive the V8 truck!!"

Part of my job is to check the news wires daily. The International/Ford thing is getting nasty: Ford is claiming that it's International's engines (and then Ford went off to begin developing their own engine - in violation of their non-compete agreements with International); and now International is claiming it's also Ford's programming that is failing to operate the engines within known, specified, and reasonable limits.
