It's a 10 inch hole and to be honest, I've never lost anything because it wouldn't fit through the hole. However, I've lost a few because the line rubs the bottom edge of the hole and causes the line to break.
The hole looks smaller because it was a first trip of the year and there was only 5-6 inches of ice.
I just finished a waterfowl hunting trip in ND and it was -9 F this morning. It won't be long for ice fishing in the Midwest!
