It's a Yanmar 2220D, 26 HP. Yanmar makes the compact tractors for John Deere. If you look at the engines on the J/D compact tractors you will see a Yanmar engine. Yanmar has been in the diesel business for many, many years and also makes marine engines.
It's not hydrostatic drive but has 15 forward gears and 5 reverse. It has a neat feature called "power shift" you can shift from reverse, neutral, or three forward gears without using the clutch.
I'm still getting the hang of the front end loader, but it sure has come in handy already.
For just having 26 HP it surprises me what it can do. It pulls my disc harrow, box scrape, renovator, and 5ft brush hog with ease. I would love to have a larger tractor but my land is so hilly a larger tractor would be impractical. Plus this one will get in those tight places between trees etc.
