Re: Gobble gobble
|
I closed out the FL spring season at my Dad's place with a bang -- literally, on Saturday. The morning hunt was unsuccessful, with the gobbler only gobbling about 8 times, then shutting up before I could get in a good position on him.
We then rode around a few places trying to hear another one. At 11:30 we rode past a clover field, and saw one turkey on the back side of it, about 200 yards away. With the binoculares I could see it was a gobbler. I was able to ease down the edge of the woods to about 85 yards of him. I got hidden in the bushes the best I could and stuck my decoy in the field, about 10 yards from where I was sitting. I started calling and he gobbled a couple of times and strutted to 28 steps of me. Because it was rainy that morning, I didn't bring my camera but was wishing I had. He looked great with the sun shining on him, strutting through the clover. Best hunt I've had all year. He was 18.8 lbs, 11.5" beard, and 3/4" spurs. I'll put up the pic tomorrow; didn't bring the SD card to work w/ me.
