Re: Bcm Module Sub-harness Info

The main reason for the recall was that the wires going to the trailers left and right brake lights had no fuse protection. Evidently these wires originate at the BCM (body control module), go thru the trailering relays, then back to the 7 way plug where you plug a trailer into. Without these fuses, a wiring fault (ground or short) would toast the BCM. The only way the engineers could remedy this oversight was to add a harness to the BCM with fuses in the two unprotected wires. This harness though had about thirty wires in it and the only way they could fix the problem was to make a short extention cord harness of thirty wires with a fuse in each of the two unprotected wires. The repair person would then unplug the harness from the BCM, plug in the extention, then plug the original harness into the extention harness and ram all the new wireing up under your dash with the fuse holders up there somewhere. When I had the recall done on my truck, the service manager nor the tech had any idea on why they were doing this work till I explained it to them. Evidently the tech sheet they worked off of did not explain the purpose of the harness extention, so therefore they did not know about the fuses to tell customers. I do not know if trucks built after the mistake was discovered have the fuses somewhere else now. If anybody knows this, could they please share where the fuses are located. The recall, I would think, was just a band aid remedy, and the fuses are an intrigal part of the wiring in the truck now.
