1. Nissan sent out the letter attached above due to the use of flushing machines, it sounds to me that these machines and possible deposits from them are the real reason they recomend you skip the flush. Replacing fluids is still good.

2. You can still do the flush, you just need to do it the old fashioned way with 2 people, idle the truck and pour it in while you drain it until it comes out clean. There is a description of this process but I lost the link. You can also just drain 4-5 qts a few times slowly cycling out the fluid. Also some recommend removing the pan and cleaning the magnets and keeping the inside spotless (no lint etc.) dont use paper towels, get degreasers, evaporative cleaners, etc for this one.

3. Unless they can prove it caused your problems, it will not void the warranty to use a different fluid. Plus if they really claim you have to use it, they have to provide it to you for FREE so long as the maintenance is recomended and you are still under said warranty. Thats part of the Magnusen/Moss (sp) language. Several lubricant companies claim to be compatible (Royal purples universal ATF, and Amsoil's ATF to name 2).

What will I do? After researching this I have canceled my flush appt for next week ($175 back into my budget) will find 5 qts of Amsoil or Royal Purple (the right one will say its compatible on the bottle, plan on around $50) and will do a drain and fill every 5K over the next 15K (currently around 37K on the truck).
The Flush machine seemed to work nicely on mine...If you change out in 5 quart intervals your never changing all the fluid since the 5 quarts you add just mixes with the old stuff...

For example your cleaning your fishtank and you change 1/2 the water. Fill it backup. Then the next day you drain it 1/2 way again and fill it back up, the second change your likely only changed out 1/4th of the origional water. Next day you drain it 1/2 way and fill it up again, this time you only changed 1/8th of the origional water. And so on. It's going to be much worse on a truck changing less than 30% of the oil at a time. Not sure on what they mean by deposits left from a flush machine, but it certainly can't be worse than deposits left by not changing all the oil.
