Has anybody tried Barkeepers Friend for water spots on windows?

We have a black glass cooktop in our kitchen that was a complete pain to clean (the exact opposite of what I thought it would be) and somebody recommended Barkeepers Friend. Works like a charm, no hazing; the only drawback is it is a powder, like Comet, so after you polish the glass you may have to clean up excess product.

I have no idea about using it on paint. It seems it would be way too harsh.
