I did this awhile back.

Poor man's CAI

I ended up replacing the filter with an AEM Dryflow and replaced the air box with a baffle like the AEM. That worked better than my original design in the link above. It helped the top end and midrange nicely. I was happy with my setup until I got a wild hair up my *** (and alot of Alcohol in my system) and bought an Injen Powerflow on Ebay. I got it new for $271 shipped. Anyway, the Injen is a night and day difference from my homemade system. The low end and midrange throttle response was much better.

All in all, the Poor Man's CAI works well for the $$ spent, but nothing beats a good tuned intake.
