I lifted my 2WD because I like the look. I don't plan on doing much offroading, but I will do some here and there. Oh, and for the record, my buddy had a 99 Silverado 2WD with a 9"lift and 35's. Aired down to 12 psi in each tire, he went EVERYWHERE in Glamis and Pismo. Who says you need 4wd for that? IMO, you just gotta be smart and not drive like a dumbass.
