You put one on your hitch and one on your trailer and just back up until they touch. It really makes it easy.

Also, when I'm backing up the trailer into a space, I can put one on the inside tongue of the trailer at the point where it might hit my bumper. I can then watch it and make sure I don't smash the bumper with the trailer.
