Soon to be titan owner-RF to aftermarket questions...
Ok, should be picking up a super clean 04 LE this weekend and have some questions.
I have a Kenwood 6019 double din nav unit I will be swapping in. I can't seem to find a straightforward answer on how to bypass the factory amp, or basically the right way to get it all to work correctly. I read that the oem speakers are 2 ohm so if I bypass the amp and run off the HU that pulls the HU down to 2 ohms which will make it run hotter and all that..right? Its been several years since I was really into the stereo scene so I am a little rusty.
Also, when you bypass the oem amp how does the factory sub work?
I do have a pretty nice 50x4 amp I could use in this-would that make a bit of difference? Are the OEM RF speakers capable of handling that power? Not real sure that I would bother going with different speakers and all that down the road, other than maybe a different sub. Is it possible to replace the oem sub with another one that is better or is it a 'sealed unit' that is not able to be changed?
Where are directions on how to pull apart the dash? Is there a lot of room behind there for all the nav equipment and miles of wiring? Also you other guys with nav setups, is there a good spot just under the dash to put the antenna for the GPS so I don't have to put it on the dash but still get decent reception? Also my XM antenna is pretty big (the garmin one is goofy)-any place for that bad boy? Its about 3" across and round/1" thick.
Is the OEM XE bezel still the best one out there for the job? Also it seems like all the photo's of installs shows gaps around the HU on a double din-has anyone been able to clean that up a bit or am I just seeing them without the trim ring?
Sorry for the millions of questions but I have been researching this all for a few days and I can't get many straight answers. Thanks in advance for the help!
