At first Nissan just put a piece of duct tape over the hole but I told them that was unacceptable so they installed a rubber plug. I hope this helps out.

I too have the noise coming from under the rear passengers seats near the jack (Crew Cab), except mine is not a popping sound, it is more of a constant rattle. I hope they don't have to cut into her like yours...Sorry to hear about that.
