You should try one of those swiss backpacks, thats what I use for a carry-on. It has several sections to keep what ever you have, it has a section for your laptop, cell phone, ipod and anything else you need. Some of them even have an ipod port so you can keep your ipod in your pack and just plug your headphones into the bag.
