No, they're not even close for most things. FedEx did some changes as of late that really make them worth using.

For example, I just sold a ton of parts from my ex-Tundra. This one cause me problems:

It was my fault I didn't look into shipping first, but I almost got hose.

Went to ups. Ask if they could ship it. Yes, they could, but for over $150.

Took it to USPS. They said they could ship it, but needed to either box or shrinkwrap them up first. Would cost around $85.

Took it to a couple "mailboxes etc" type places. Sure, they build a custom box for around $65 and ship it for over $150 (their premium over UPS of course).

I was ready to refund the purchase and throw the parts in the trash when I tried FedEx as a last ditch effort (thinking they would be the same as UPS).

The lady behind the counter took out 2 "ski shipping bags", put one of each end of the parts, put it on the scale, measured it, and it came out to $14 shipping to CA (and got there in 3 days). I then grabbed other boxes out of my truck and what would have cost around $9 to ship at USPS (and $20 at UPS) cost around $5 at FedEx.

The won all my business from now on. And the tracking number is free, unlike USPS.
