Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

Your Confirmation number (ODI Number) is: 10236340

07 2WD LE with Big Tow package, 20,000 miles. I pull a 18 foot bass boat, (you don't even know it's behind the truck!). I liked the truck until I was pulling the boat home today and my rear end locked up in the middle of an interesction with boat in tow! After about 15 mins of folks cussing at me for blocking the intersection a nice man offered to help me off the road to the shoulder so I could safely unhook my boat. The Nissan dealer had a roll back on site in about 45 mins, not bad. I thought the transmission had gone out, no clunking, whining gears etc.. before she gave out, just a clunk and bam total failure. I slid her in neutral thinking it was the transmission and when he went to pull me we figured out real quick my rear tires were LOCKED UP! I ruined two new Bridestone Revo AT's getting to saftey with the boat. Not like I had a choice, I had to get the boat and truck out of the middle of a intersection of an intersate on and off ramp and a 4 lane road. I have asked Nissan to replace those two tires. Firestone says rear end locking up in the middle of the road is not a tire "road hazard".

I had 4/32's left on the stock Conti's when I swapped them out at about 19,000 miles. Better safe than sorry!

I found out real quick my extended warranty rental only gives me a "like vehicle" IE a truck you cannot tow with!!! Thank goodness for a dealer that bent over backwards to get me a commercial Ford F250 until he can get me back on the road. I know the u joints had to take a beating getting drug off the road. The transmission did not sound good at all when I put her in neutral. Since it's sealed, I bet they check the fluid and if it looks ok put it back on the road?

Things break, I understand that. I checked this page 1.5 years ago when I switched from Toyota to Nissan and it seemed like this problem was gone in 06. Now I have a truck that I am so far upside down in I can't see a way out (like most truck owners out there today) and I really don't trust the truck since I cannot find an answer to "what is THE ROOT CAUSE of this friggen problem! " My dealer freely admits he has changed a "few" noisy rear ends, I am the first stranded failure. He drives an 06 Titan himself!

I can just see me being 200 miles from home, boat in tow, breaking down, and them sending me a truck with no reciver, no lights, etc.. to get back on the road with. BTW, yes I have the best 100K mile ext warranty offered, after today I'd say save your money. If it was not for my service manager I'd be driving something with no chance of pulling my boat the rest of the week I have off. UGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully I'll learn to trust my Titan again one day, it'll be a while after reading now 30 pages of rear end problem reports.

Rant over
