One of the things I always did like about McCain was when Clinton was living in Canada and W was getting drunk and high while pretending to serve in the reserves McCain was giving it his all. After the fire on the Forrestal when it was heading back to California he volunteered to go back to Vietnam, it was after that he was shot down. He didn't even have to be there, but as a result he was a POW for years. The man really does qualify for hero status. I just wish he would go back to being himself.

Speaking of Presidents who were shot down, has anyone read the book Flyboys by Flags of our father author James Bradley? It chronicles the life and death of our American Pilots shot down over the island of Chichi Jima (Iwo's next door neighbor) including a young George H.W. Bush. The other two men in his plane were never accounted for. He never knew if they made it out or if they were captured and tortured and murdered by the Japanese like so many other US Servicemen.
