Good application techniques - I like to use a thin cotton cloth covered sponge applicator, or for general vinyl cleanup/treatment spray a pure cotton washcloth and use sparingly.
However, I did an environmental test with 303 versus my still favorite vinyl treatment product made by Durgloss (Brother's Reasearch Co. out of NC) a few years ago. I used my sister-inlaw's Geo Tracker spare tire cover which was vinyl and attached to the rear exterior of the vehicle. One half was applied with Duragloss and the other half with 303. Both initially made the tire cover look very nice compared to cleaned untreated surface (as expected). After 3 weeks, the 303 side was slightly less "black" looking and upon wetting showed less beading/water runoff than the Duragloss side. The Duragloss provided longer lasting protection.
303 is still good stuff compared to alot of other products. I have no affiliation with any vehicle treatment companies. Just an enthusiast.
YMMV,
