Its hard to say, we know for a fact the titan produces more power than its rated at, dyno results and 1/4 mile math prove that. Here's my theory. The armada, titan and qx56 are internally similar, I do believe a cam difference is a possibility but for cost reasons I kind of doubt it, at least with the armada and titan. I would bet each has a different map in the computer optimized for each vehicles typical purpose. Also there is some genius in marketing an engine in a under rated fashion. Less say it produces 400 ft/lbs of torque. Best in class is currently 375 ft/lbs before your engine is released, so just say its 379, your still best in class and you also have put yourself in a position to one up your competition if they make a move without virtually spending any money in the process. Call it a computer tweak and ride the laurels of this fabulous engine you’ve designed.
I think Nissan should have added variable valve timing to the vk56 in the QX 56. After all it is pretty much your flagship you should offer your top technology, and this is the market that can afford it. Also how long will it be before Nissan decides to go after the viper, cobra and Z06 and offer a 400+h.p version of this engine in a Z type chassis. The current VK56 block could certainly handle that and in my mind probably more h.p. than even an LS6. The Nissan 560ZX -kind of has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it.
