Weight in the rear over the axle(sand bags work well), snow tires(take your pic, Check out tirerack.com) maybe even some chains for the deep stuff. It sounds like you come from an area that only sees occasional snow, so next time it snows find an empty parking lot(big one) and practice driving around in it.
