I have run in to a snag before I even start. I stripped the RCA cables but there were two wires in both the left and the right cable. Meaning for the white side there was a small white wire and some copper wire around it and the same for the red one. Is the copper part a ground??

And, I am gonna splice in an extra 1/8 stereo plug, and the wires colors are red, black, and a bare silver one. Any thoughts?
