Killed a '98 Reg Cab in my '05 CrewCab
Last time I went to the track I ran against a truck almost identical to mine with the only difference being he was tuned with HP Tuners and I had a handheld predator programmer. He beat me at the track, so this got me looking at my tune. A friend of mine with Data Logging software logged some WOT runs on my truck to find throttle position going from 100% to 40% and timing droping from 25 degrees to 6 degrees at shift points. Then we found that WOT launches started at 0 degrees timing went to 2 degrees timing until almost 4000rpms before it went up to 25 degrees. I worked with support at diablo sports to address these issues but they were only able to get the shift points a little better. Well yesterday, went see the friend that helped me data log and we removed the predator tune and tuned it with HP Tuners. After the tuning was complete there was a major difference, my truck has never ran this good, doesn't feel like I'm driving the same truck. Also installed a vette servo, will bark the tires on the 1-2 shift sometimes.
Now on to the kill story......While we were data logging and test driving after getting the tuned finished, we ran across a guy with an older '98 model reg cab Chevy pickup. I'm not sure all of his mods, but I know he ran similar times as I have. We went on a back road that is just sugar cane fields on each side. We ran 3 times, I pull a lenght to a lenght and a finder on him every time. This was with Intake Air Temps between 100 - 104 degrees and with a 300lbs passenger (my friend who tuned my truck). The difference from a hand held programmer to a custom tune is just amazing. I wish I would have done this a long time ago. Can't wait to see what it will run now, last time out with the predator tune and a DA of 2100 feet and ran in the 14.9x range @ 90.x mph. I'm hoping to pick up a couple tenths and a couple mph.
