i had a couple of different setups. i had stock pipes with muffler swap, true duals with 2.25 pipes & last is 2.50 y-pipe to 3" pipe to muffler and i can tell the most difference by far with the 2.50 fm y-pipe. i'm runnin a 3" in/out bullet muffler and afe stage 2 intake. this combo is the best of all 3 i had. decent low end, good mid, and excellent top, for me anyway.
it's hard to say what is the best combo because everyone likes different setups. but this here works perfect for me.
