potroast, i think that the wider the tire, the less traction, because the surface area of the tire is bigger and flatter and tends to sit on top. a more narrow tire will cut into the snow better. (i'm just talking tire size, not tread types) it's like taking rollar skates (the old fashioned kind) with wide wheels against ice skates (with a narrow blade). or something along those lines anyway.
