I also have a noise coming from the right side dash, by the ac vent. It sounds sort of like if I had a couple of washers in a cup, and it sounds only when I drive over rough roads or bumps. The noise has nothing to do with the engine or acceleration like other posts I've read (I even turned off the engine on a bumpy road and could still hear it.)
I took the glove compartment out and removed the fuse cover and had my wife drive around (can you believe I let her drive it?) while I stuck my head in and around that area. I tried moving the wire bundles and stand-offs behind there but I was not able to stop the noise. I did find out that I can hit the dash with the base of my palm with the truck stopped and cause a similar, much less noticeable noise.
I am convinced that the noise is coming from a steel tube, about 2 inches in diameter, that goes all the way across the dash. You can see the tube by looking past the glove compartment door at a slight up angle. This tube provides some attachment points for the Dash and you can see the wire stand-offs welded to it. I noticed that the tube has punched holes in it and I bet the punched metal is still in the tube and causing the noise I hear.
Does anyone know if there are any wires that run inside this tube? I am tempted to drill out some of those punched holes enough to get a magnet in there and try to chase those pieces out. Another option is to fill the tube with some expanding foam or something that would kind of glue the loose pieces in place.
