I have a plastic drop-in that works fine for my line of work. I've seen a few nasty DIY jobs also, but a former coworker did a good job of it in his Ram with the Herculiner. He only did one coat because he only uses the bed for light duty weekend stuff. He said it was tedious work and would probably never do it by himself again. If you have the time, patience, and skill to do the application yourself then go for it.
