Ok for home defense, I have to recomend a shotgun. Handguns go through to many walls for me. Also the rack of a pump gun will get anyones attention and generaly cause an imediate retreat.
If you want a pistol and you can afford it I am a SIG man. I have a P226 in 9mm and several friends have P228, P229 and P220s wonderful guns and are right up there with the HKs.
If I had to do it all over again. I would get a .40 The reason is most of those can be modified to shoot .357 sig and 9mm with a drop in barrel and mag change.
Now I have a friend out in Pheonix who sells most guns but specializes in Glocks. (Prices are 5 - 10% over cost) http://www.glock-doc.com/ He has good prices and all you have to do is get a local FFL dealer to accept the shipment and do the paperwork $10-$25 per gun.
