It sounds like what you call a "puddle" was more like a lake! It'd take something pretty deep for water and MUD to get sucked into the intake to the point of drowning your MAF sensor. It can't just be splashed, it would have to have been submerged in mud. Looking at my truck, there's really no way for it to get splashed from the wheelwell area. Nissan probably didn't cover it because nowhere on the Titan does it say SUBMARINE. Maybe you should look into something like a Jeep with a snorkle kit for extreme off-roading. Sorry it cost you so much though.
