If the land/lease owner fired his weapon very near Vang first to "intimidate" him for being on private property, it is easy to see why Vang would respond with deadly intent. I'm not at all saying this is what happened. I am just guessing what might be used as a defense argument.

well, like that saying goes...better to be "judged by six" [of a jury, nowdays it may be 12 on a jury] then to be "carried by six."
I can see how a man might react that way, fearing for his life. neverthe less, Vang may very likely be guilty.
However, "jury of peers" of Wisconson folks likely will not look kindly upon that working class non-white immigrant, Vang. He aint't even a popular and wealthy NFL football player such as O.J.
