It is WAY more powerful than a 44 mag. This would come in handy if the bad guys coming into your house are wearing body armor. It would also come in handy if you flee the bad guys in your car. If they follow you, you can fire some rounds right through their engine block to disable their vehicle.
S&W 500 is a quite a stick.

I already have a 44 Mag loaded with Garret 310 grain Hardcast (which will defeat body armor), but if i went hunting in Alaska I'd pack a .454 Casull (derived from .45 Long Colt, which a Ruger Super RedHawk 454 can also shoot) instead of the S&W 500.

We're looking for our 1st semi-auto (for the times when "speaking softly" yet firmly don't cut it), but we remain fans of the revolvers.
