Since it's for your wife also, I'd go with the Glock. I don't like the trigger
pull on them, but their accuracy is superb for that type of gun.
If you decide to go the 1911 route, spend a few dollars more and get a
Kimber rather than a Springfield. Compare the slide to frame play in the
gun store if you want to see the difference. I used to have a Springfield,
now I own two Kimbers. I met the regional sales manager for Smith &
Wesson last week, and he showed me a new high end 1911 model they
are introducing. It was $2400, and wasn't as tight as my Gold Match
Kimber.
I wouldn't consider the Ruger or Taurus unless I was trying to save money.
Check out the Para Ord's with their new LDA system. Much better trigger
than the Glock, and excellent accuracy. They even make them in a 'limited"
with match barrel and bushing.
