Painted bug deflector

I am having the hood painted because a small piece of metal fell off of a flat bed truck, bounced twice, and then whacked the hood of my truck putting a two inch scratch down into the metal. I think it would have hit too high for a hood deflector to prevent this but after closer observation by myself and the body shop, there are small rock chips on the front face of the hood that were not there in the fall. A hood deflector would have prevented this.

I noticed that several of you have the painted deflectors. When I brought up this idea to the body shop, he was hesitant in painting the inside. He could not guarantee that paint would not chip off because of the surface bonding and because of the flex of the deflector. Has anyone had problems with the paint chipping or peeling off of their painted deflectors?
