Yes, there are two sensors--one per bank. I believe it's main purpose is to retard the timing to protect from detonation. But I've heard some modern ecu's will use the sensors to allow the motor to take advantage of higher octane gas as well. Not sure on the Titan, but I know mine does run better on premium, so it would appear that the timing is slightly advanced over using reg unleaded. I'm not sure how else the ecu would know the difference w/o sensing some knock first, but I'm no expert...that I do know!
