The key I have found to removing bugs is to:
1. Soak the front surfaces several times with your favorite car wash soap, and wash other panels between soakings. After 3-4 separate soakings (approximately 10-15 minutes total), then begin to rub. This works exteremely well at softening the dirt/bugs for easy removal.
2. Wash out of the sun, and only in cool temps. Sunrise or sunset times are perfect. If it's too warm, the car wash soap simply evaporates, and the soaking does not loosen the bugs. Heck, I usually have some of the easiest washing during a rain!
I have never needed any bug and tar remover, and my front is SPOTLESS.
