If you were to go to FTE and look through the posts, you'd see that there have been a couple of folks who have constantly provoked and challenged the Ford owners over a period of time. Ken, the owner of the site finally basically said put up or shut up. And that was not said by me in any spirit of meanness.
As I've posted on FTE, I think it would be an interesting challenge to actually see, since a lot of people don't believe everything they read in magazines, which we all know have a tendency to be biased toward one make or another.
I have suggested showroom stock trucks from both sides, not that others may not be also compared...I have no control over this contest. The reason I suggest "showroom stock" is because the stories told by the Titan folks who visit FTE has been in general that Titan can out do the F150 under most any circumstance.
None of the official test trucks are to be modified in any way. That means that if you have a Titan with 15" tires, or 17"...or whatever comes from the factory, I imagine we will try to match as closely as possible.
To suggest, in this forum or ours, that either side would cheat is understandable ... but honor dictates that we be as fair as possible. And, yes, cheating is a concern from both sides.
Myself ... I have stated that a hitch to hitch pull off is goofy and I have seen too many pull offs of that type, with all makes and models of vehicles each taking their own win, depending on the driver and who loses traction first. That is whay I have suggested, to the event organizers, that the same weighted trailor be pulled by both trucks and / or a tractor pull sled utilized.
The contest, to me is only an amusement, as it will not make me nor any of you ever change your minds about which vehicle you love to drive and believe in to the core of your being. I have simple needs, which my Fords have always provided in my 48+ years of being a licensed driver. I have a 99 F150 with 64,000 trouble free miles on it. And the only complaint I have with Ford and have stated numerous times on FTE, is that I should be offered a manual transmission behind any size engine currently offered, instead of being forced to drive an automatic, if I want more than 4.6 liters. But that's neither here nor there...I'm sure you guys have had some type of complaint about your own vehicles, major or minor... it isn't relevant and doesn't concern me.
There will always be challenges of some type or another...be it a drag race, mud bog, who can fall the fastest over a cliff... as long as people are walking the planet. I see no urinating match here.... only another fair and balanced match. This isn't NASCAR where we all have to be "equal"... this is a match between pure stock vehicles in front of, hopefully a large group of people to witness it all. THEN...let the magazines write about it.
Anyway, I wish you all a good evening and an even better tomorrow.
