I'm very new to the dragstrip myself but here's what I've been doing:
- VDC off. I forgot to turn if off once, as expected had a slow launch.
- Let the tranny shift for you. Seems like part of the advantage of a standard transmission is the ability to feel the clutch, not going to happen with the automatic. (The one thing I miss about my Frontier.)
- I don't think burning out helps regular street tires, however, I was having trouble avoiding the water last time, so it was better to get it off before staging (yeah that's it). Actually I wasn't burning out, just stomping on it from a dead stop. I'd like to keep from replacing my tranny and tires for a while so I'm leaving the power breaking alone.
- I did try 91 octane this time, didn't notice a difference, was running slower then last time anyway.
- Also started with a little over a 1/4 tank. I would have done less but I wanted to get home afterwards.
I've been of the mind set that I want to know what this truck does as it is. So the spare and tailgate have been on and the tire pressures are normal. I'm beginning to feel the bug of shaving tenths of seconds off so I'm sure I'll start tweaking things.
I have found a lot of good help on this subject by searching around here. There are lots of others here with more/better experence than I.
Good luck with the F350, and as it's been said many times, apples and oranges, but it doesn't make it any less fun.
