Depends on which .45 glock you are talking about. The G30 has a pretty good reputation for accuracy (for a Glock). I rely on mine as a carry weapon -- once I figured out the trigger (grew up with 1911s), it does well enough for a defensive weapon. One of my coworkers carries a G36 (the subcompact) and prefers it over the G30 (mid-size, but fullsize for my purposes).
For a good inexpensive 1911, try a Kimber or Springfield. You get what you pay for, so bear that in mind when buying a 1911. However, I like both manufacturers, though Kimber gets the nod if I 'had' to choose one for an inexpensive model. For truly serious 1911 carry, Wilson Combat makes a darn good weapon, but their models are a bit tougher on the wallet -- again, you get what you pay for. 8>
