I installed my Zoomer exhaust system. Here is my opinion on the overall system (long).
I ordered the system and it arrived nine days later. The system seemed of great quality and packaged nicely. All the pieces were there and only the muffler had a small ding about the size of a quarter. There are no instructions with this kit, only three pictures of an installed system. The pictures do help with figuring out which way is front and back on the muffler and rear pipe. I did this in my garage and did not lift the truck.
Installation: Make sure you spray WD-40 on the nuts the night before. The OEM system came off easy enough, but one nut was frozen in place and slowed me down considerably. Do not tighten any clamps until you are sure the system clears all areas and it looks the way you want it. Never force the pipes in any way, the fit together very easy. Here are the steps for the installation.
1. Spray the nuts the night prior.
2. Remove the nuts at the flanges, first by the resonators (2) and the pipe behind the muffler (1). You have to undo both the front and rear flanges or the system will not come out from under the truck.
3. Remove the front hanger assembly (there are three) and remove the exhaust system. Keep the OEM flange gaskets and all nuts for re-use.
4. Grab the small pipe with the flange on the end. Slide the small clamp onto the pipe and slide into the Y pipe.
5. Position the Y pipe in place against the resonator flanges. Slide the front hanger assembly onto the Y pipe hanger rod and hang in place. Next thread the four nuts onto the flange bolts, hand tighten only.
6. Grab the rear pipe and figure out using the included pictures which way is the front. It will only fit one way. Do not force the pipes together at any time. Insert the pipe hanger rods into the middle and rear hanger assemblies.
7. Place a clamp on the end of the Y pipe and the front of the rear pipe.
8. Install the muffler with the bolted plate to the front and the rounded end to the rear. The little prop inside the muffler is in the rear of the muffler.
9. Install the exhaust tip on the end of the rear pipe with a clamp but do not tighten. Make sure the Zoomer logo is up and slightly out from the truck body. The tip is a slash cut design so make sure it is right side up. The exhaust system should look pretty normal at this point.
10. Take a last look and make sure the muffler and pipes are not touching anything and look good/normal like in the provided pictures.
11. Start to tighten the clamps at the front left flange pipe where it connects to the Y pipe and continue to the rear. I used a ½ inch pry-bar to tighten the clamps. You need to really tighten to get the clamps to bite down. If the clamps are not tight, when you go to tighten the exhaust tip, the whole system from the muffler back will twist a lot. Make sure the exhaust tip is on tight. My came right off when I thought it was on tight. I really recommend this system be welded on. I got estimates at both Meineke and Midas, they both wanted $100, highway robbery, but Midas got the job since I was already there.
The Zoomer replaced an OEM system with a Hooker Aero Muffler which was really loud and intrusive with massive drone.
The Zoomer system sounds awesome, tight and collected. No raspy sounds or DRONE during acceleration or deceleration!! It sounds authorative while idling but not loud. There is only good sound out of this system. When you get on the throttle it sounds marvelous.
As for performance, Zoomer dynos the system at 13 hp. I did not notice any real difference in the seat of the pants on my first drive. As for gas mileage, I’ll let you know in a week or so. By the way I fly B-52s, I’m not a mechanic, if you don’t like or disagree with the way I did this complaint to the management.
