Actually, the exhaust system is
ONLY as efficient as the narrowest portion of the system.
Meaning: you could put a 3" monster cat back system but do not expect them to flow like 3" if the OE resos are still there (about 1.75" at it's narrowest point). The exhaust flow will continue to be restricted by the narrowest point of the entire system. And/or vice-versa: You could install a set of expensive headers but if the Y-pipe and reso/cats are there to continue restrict the flow, you are not getting the full benefit of the new headers. You might just as well leave the OE high flow exhaust manifold.
So when you plan the exhaust, make the mods worth while that all the parts work together towards a common goal.
