I think the major benefit is that your fan has a parasitic effect on your engine, meaning when your fan kicks on it is powered by a pulley powered by your engine. This reduces engine out put or horse power. The fan being electric or engine driven should have no effect on how cool it keeps the engine. The electric fans are just powered by the battery instead of the engine, leaving the piower where you want it.
