Re: Truetrac in Titan - Review
Austin, thank you for being the laboratory test bed for this. Not only have you helped us find a really good solution to traction problems, but I believe you are dead on right about this solving the diff weakness problem.
Like you, I have seen and played with the guts of a lot of diffs. Our axles are incredibly beefy for a 1/2 ton truck, and the size of the teeth on the ring and pinion are more than stout enough. By keeping the actual diff ratios down to 2.92 or 3.36 and gearing low in the tranny, you get a much bigger pinion gear than if this was a 4.10 rear end.
Many of us here have felt that the diff failures were due to spider gear problems. The TrueTrac replaces them. TrueTracs can and do take a lot of horsepower on the strip and are tried and true.
Now, Nissan, if you are listening (or reading), why don't you learn from this and just put a TrueTrac in the rear of each of your '07's when they come out and have some happy customers and save a ton of money on warranty work?
Problem solved. Thanks, Austin.
