A while back I noticed that some idiot put a dent in my front bumper. I removed the bumper (Very easy) and brought it to a body shop. They sent it out for rechroming. It only cost around $200.00.

I may go your route but right now I'm doing my best to try and live with that minor scratch. It's not to bad but it ticks me off everytime I see it. Guess I can call it a character mark....
