Ford DID own a vey small (about 9-12%) part of Cummins.They bought the shares in 1990,and sold them back to Cummins in 1997.Here's the article from the New York Times

Thats when the rumor got started,and it had nothing to do with the POS 6.0 PSD because Ford had the 7.3 liter when the rumor was started.
Even with Ford owning that small percentage of Cummins,they never had any say so or controlling interest in what Cummins did.
Its hard to believe this rumor is still going after all these years.
