Taking a look at the last
presidential election map along with looking at
gas tax by state I wanted to see if there was a correlation of how gas prices vary by state, state gas taxes, and state party affiliation.
I took todays
state gas cost averages and put all of this together in the attached spreadsheets.
While blue states averaged $0.07/gallon higher tax than red states, blue states had $0.13/gallon higher gas prices over red states, and $0.04/gallon higher gas costs when subtracting out gas tax.
It was interesting to see how much state gas taxes vary , but it does not appear that lower taxes meant lower gas prices. In fact, I am now more confused that when I started this mess.
