Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

my rear diff was replaced last march or april, I can't remember. I would hear a clunk from the rear end whenever I would shift from reverse to drive, kind of like if a u-joint was going out. I would also hear a low pitch whine at slow speeds (very slow like 1-2 mph and only when turning.) It kind of sounded like the rear brakes were catching. Anyhow, I took it to the dealer and voiced my concernes. He also told me that the noise was the brake pads, but when i called him back in the afternoon, he told me the diff was going out, and it was on back order. Three weeks later, I finally got my truck back. Now the "bad u-joint noise" never really went away, if anything it was lessend (is that even a word?) but now it is more pronounced. I just now reported the initial replacedment (complaint #10167333.) My truck had about 12k miles on the original 'failure.' I am going to take it back to the dealership probably this coming week. I want to buy an extended warranty first becuase my local dealership won't give me a rental unless I have one.
