Wow...didn't know this kill would generate this much discussion.
I did a bit of surfing to find out the approximate year...looks like it would be an a 2001-2004 or somewhere in that range...looks like the one here:

As some said above it looks like the 4.7l and the 5.9l were the only 2 V8 options. Can't really say for sure which one it was, but ran pretty good for a Dakota. I didn't stop and chat with them but as I slowed down for my turn, they passed and I noticed two big chrome exhaust tips exiting under the rear bumper.
Once again they did get the early jump on me considering they were in the inside turning lane...therefore they went a shorter distance and also went full throttle well before I did.
