I'm not in TX, but may be able to advise.
are the scratches through the clear coat? If so, you're not going to get anywhere with a buffer.

If the scratches are within the clear coat, try out some very fine grit wet sand paper and wet sand it down to where the scratches disappear... then use some urethane based wax on it, should look as good as new.

A buffer isn't good for deep scratches... you'll end up burning the clear long before you smooth out the blemish. buffer's are good for buffing though... like removing oxidation and getting a very high shine. It does, however, take all day to wax your truck to showroom shine.
