I would buy that little diesel for sure. North America knows diesel for big power and towing but doesn't understand the benefits of small diesels for economy - a little V6 diesel could do everything the big V8 can - with half the fuel, and they sound so sweet. Look what Cummins can do with an inline 6 - although it it a bit bigger. Scaled down to about 4L it would be a good powerplant for a 1/2 ton.
