Rem. semi-autos had many problems in 30-06. it's much better to get one in .308. Since the power level is the same, you can use it anywhere (except with heavy bullets) you would use a 30-06. The .308 plinking ammo is also much cheaper. One problem the pumps and autos have is that the hole for the firing pin is often too big (once in awhile also in the bolt guns). In extreme cases it can jam up either gun. Many swear by them, many swear at them. Buy what you like and either learn from it, or love it!
