CVT is pretty nice, especially for 4 cylinder FWD cars. Comparing the Altima against the Camry, you don't get that front end rise and dive during shift points, less jerky. There is a decent gas mileage gain with CVT as well. It does take some getting used to because you don't think the car is getting up to speed as quick, but that is not the case. The other advantage is for long distance travel that you are running lower RPM's which makes the ride quieter. I drove an CVT Altima as a rental and found the engine at 1400 RPM on highway speeds, with plenty of power on reserve.
