Have a set sitting in backyard-shipping too much.
I have a set of the 17" steel wheels sitting-literally-in my backyard.I switched to the 17" offroad alloy wheels to drop some weight, and for looks.I don't have any use for big wheels either. If it came with 16" wheels-tires and really tall sidewalls,I would be happier(cheaper tires).
No one wants to ship the steel wheels because they are sooo heavy-32lbs-each,so shipping weight maybe 35lbs.It would cost waaay over $100 to ship them to the NE from New Orleans. They would have to go in 4 separate boxes-biggish boxes-or UPS would charge another $5(or so) each for non standard box(a piece of cardboard on each side.Folks don't want to ship because once the prospective buyer finds out the cost,he takes a pass(usually after implying that you are lying about the shipping cost).Folks buy something from an online dealer-say 4 wheels-tires,and the shipping is only $100.They don't understand that a big company gets a MUCH BETTER price than an individual does.
Well, that is why folks don't want to ship cheap wheels-big pain-no gain-waste of time. They are just too expensive to ship.Who wants to pay $150+$150 for steel wheels?Might as well just pay another $100 or so and get alloy wheels.
Well, long story longer. The "no shipping" guys have probably been down the road before and decided once was enough.Charlie PS I would sell then for $120,but the shipping to anywhere makes it pointless to ship the steel wheels.Better to pay a little more and get the offroad alloy wheels-6.5lbs lighter(I weighed both).I think I paid about $420-shipping included-for my offroad wheels via Ebay.Look carefully and you can find them a little cheaper.
PPS If someone with 18" wheels wanted to "lower" their gearing to accelerate faster the 17 steel might make some sense.Still I would spend a bit more and get the much lighter Offroads if accel is a consideration.Have more $$$ spend $800 and get the 20 lb Centerline 17x8" stingray wheels.20lbs is Centerlines claim-sounds right to me;they are forged, should be able to make them lighter than our cast aluminum wheels.
